Former England national team technical sponsor Admiral has launched their 2014 teamwear range. It includes the Retro 100 Collection that sees the firm reissue kit designs once used by the likes of Manchester United, West Ham, Southampton, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.
According to Admiral: In 2014 we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Admiral Sportswear brand. Since the early days of Christopher Cook and Harold Hurst, Admiral has been a pioneer in British sportswear. We’re proud of being the leading light in football kit design and delighted that today; our followers still want to wear the iconic Admiral jerseys of the past.
Admiral were the first to copyright designs, add manufacturer and club logos, create branded outerwear, offer an “away” kit and the first to use material that made kits lighter and drier, today we call this Vapor-draw. The company developed kits with stripes, collars and cuffs. Where Admiral led, the World’s other brands followed.
Born in Wigston, Leicester in 1914, the Admiral brand has been worn by many sporting teams and legends including; the national football teams of England, Belgium and Wales and international club sides; Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and in North America The New York Cosmos, Tampa Bay Rowdies and Vancouver Whitecaps. Now Admiral kits are worn more than 60 pro teams in North America including the 2011 & 2012 champions of the North American Soccer League (NASL), The 2013 USL PDL Soccer league champions amongst others.
Today, 100 years on, Admiral is re-introducing the iconic designs of the past with the “Retro” 100 Collection, we’re celebrating Admiral’s heritage in sports fashion with Admiral Gold and we’ve developed a new 100 Collection Leisurewear range.
