Wojciech Wojcik scored the game-winning goal and Michael Thomas added another score as OKC Energy FC moved its current unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-1 win over Orange County Blues FC Saturday night at Taft Stadium.
With the score tied 1-1 in the 34th minute, Jose Cuevas sent a cross from the left corner into the Orange County box, where Kalen Ryden headed the ball to Wojcik near the penalty spot. Wojcik hammered a line drive shot on the still airborne ball past Blues keeper Josh Cohen for the eventual game-winning score.
Though Orange County spent much of the game's opening minutes on the offensive, Energy FC opened scoring in the 22nd minute when Danni König moved the ball into the left side of the Orange County box, maneuvered around a defender and sent a shot on goal that Cohen was unable to corral. As the ball trickled toward the Blues' net, Thomas chipped a shot past the diving Cohen for the 1-0 OKC lead.
Three minutes after Thomas gave Energy FC the lead, Orange County equalized when Mats Bjurman sent a high cross from the left side of the OKC box to Trevin Caesar, who fired a bouncing shot past Energy FC keeper Cody Laurendi. The goal was the first allowed by Laurendi in four games dating back to June 25.
OKC held off a late second half rush by Orange County to preserve the 2-1 victory. Energy FC has allowed a league-best two second half goals all season.
With the win, Energy FC improved to 7-2-7 on the season. OKC's two losses currently ties the club for the fewest in the USL Western Conference and second-fewest in the entire USL.
Energy FC next welcomes in-state rival Tulsa Roughnecks FC in a 7:30 pm CST start Saturday, July 23, at Taft Stadium. This will be an all-Admiral affair as both OKC and Tulsa are partner clubs with Admiral.
