Tips From Tipping - Look Receive Pass

When you look at a top level midfielder you may notice that their head is swiveling all the time. A midfielder has to master the game from a 360 degree perspective – receiving ball from back players,  playing ball to wide players, changing the point of attack and relaying the ball from the backs to the forwards. They are only able to do their job well if they are constantly looking around and scanning the field to see who is open, where are the opponents and how can they make themselves available to receive the ball.

“SUPER MARIO” SIGHTING IN JOPLIN

Super Mario was a popular video game character from the 1990s, but this summer he could also be on the football pitch with the Joplin Demize of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

“Super Mario” Pinto was a massive scoring threat for the Demize, scoring six goals and two assists in league play.  He was simply unstoppable on a number of occasions.  Against the Houston Dynamo’s U-23 squad, Pinto scored a hat trick in the exhibition, thriving against the higher level of competition.  In early June Pinto would score three goals in four games, earning him National Player of the Week honors in the NPSL.  Simply put, he was the perfect fit for the Demize.

CINCINNATI SAINTS IMPRESS WITH THEIR YEAR-ROUND, COMMUNITY-BASED APPROACH

Tips from Tipping: Club Glossary

As clubs become more sophisticated they will, often, develop club wide playing systems and styles. Ajax of Amsterdam were one of the first clubs to have a club wide system of play and a numbering system which described the role of the player in that area of the field. The player in the #11 position was, always, the left flank player. Some clubs would call it “left wing.” This is an important step forward as it means that everyone in the club understands what the #11 position is and where about on the field it is even if the player in that position wore the number 44!
