There is a particular kind of silence that falls over a Spanish pitch in the hour before a match, when the boards around the ground are still catching the last of the evening light, the home club's ultras are just beginning to gather, and a group of American players are lacing up in front of a crowd that has come to see whether they belong.
Two teams, Senshi Football Academy and Mid-City Lions FC spent the better part of a month answering that question, in stadiums from Amposta to L'Eliana, on pitches ringed with the sponsor boards of Spanish football's working clubs, MAPEI, Kia, Arros del Montsià, in front of directors and coaches who had seen plenty of American teams come through and were not expecting to be impressed. They left having done considerably more than that.
01 · The delegation
Two teams.
One standard.
The tour brought together the full ecosystem that Global Football Connect founder Mickey McNeill has spent years building: Senshi Football Academy, the elite women's development program that reached the podium at the 2025 Gothia Cup, and Mid-City Lions FC, the college men's side that carries the same standard into the men's game.
Traveling and training together under one delegation, both teams arrived in Spain not for a showcase tournament but for something more demanding, a direct test against Spanish professional opposition, on Spanish professional clubs' own grounds.
“Our players represented not only themselves, but also Global Football Connect, Senshi Football Academy, Mid-City Lions FC, and Admiral, with tremendous professionalism and pride,” said McNeill. “The results spoke for themselves.”Mickey McNeill
02 · Results that turned heads
Playing up.
Playing away.
They did. Senshi Football Academy's women's team went unbeaten through the entire tour, six matches, six wins, against professional Spanish clubs. Mid-City Lions FC, a college men's side facing full Spanish professional opposition, finished 3-3, a record that undersells what it took to earn it.
Playing up, playing away, and playing a style of football several levels higher than their usual college competition, the Lions did not just compete. They earned the kind of respect that doesn't show up in a scoreline.
“While the wins were exciting, what impressed our Spanish partners most was our professionalism, organization, coaching philosophy, and the quality of the players we brought overseas,” McNeill explained.
03 · More than a scoreline
Looked like professionals.
Carried themselves like professionals.
Every delegation that travels abroad hopes to make a good account of itself on the pitch. Fewer think as carefully about how they present themselves off it, and it was that second dimension, the training sessions, the meetings, the way both squads carried themselves at every stop, that left the deepest impression on the clubs hosting them.
For a delegation built on the premise that American women's and college men's football deserve to be taken as seriously as any professional academy in Europe, that is not a small detail. It is the point.
“Throughout every training session, every match, every meeting, every photograph, and every interaction, our teams looked exceptional,” said McNeill. “The Admiral kits consistently received compliments from coaches, directors, and club officials throughout Spain. The quality, fit, comfort, and professional appearance of the uniforms elevated our image and reinforced the standards we strive to represent as an organization. Our players carried themselves like professionals, and Admiral helped ensure they looked like professionals.”Mickey McNeill
04 · Equipment and identity
Three identities.
Two rosters.
One European stage.
Senshi Football Academy and Mid-City Lions FC traveled to Spain in Admiral's 2026 collection, three distinct identities built for two very different rosters, and the tour gave both teams their first real showcase in front of a professional European audience.

Home / 1982 reimagined
A conversation between
1982 and now.
The Lions' new kit is where Admiral's heritage and this delegation's ambition meet most directly. The design draws its full DNA from the 1982 Admiral England World Cup shirt, widely regarded as one of the greatest football jerseys ever made, and the same shirt Admiral recently reinterpreted.
The bold red-and-blue shoulder yoke that Admiral pioneered for England at the 1980 European Championship and carried through the record-breaking heat of the 1982 World Cup in Spain, has been reimagined here as a soft silver gradient sweeping across the shoulders, with a red gradient stripe running through the body.
It is not a reproduction. It is a conversation between 1982 and now, the same silhouette that Kevin Keegan and Bobby Robson's England once wore into a World Cup, rebuilt for a college men's team writing its own chapter in Spain, the same country where that original shirt made its World Cup debut more than four decades ago.

Admiral Sports owner Paul Hamburger said of the design's original release:
“Every jersey tells a story. We're committed to helping clubs express their unique narrative through their kits. This design perfectly bridges English football's rich history with the vibrancy of today's soccer landscape.”Paul Hamburger, Admiral Sports owner
For Mid-City Lions FC, wearing that history on Spanish soil, the same soil where the 1982 shirt once played out its own World Cup, added a layer of meaning that no one on the trip missed.

05 · A historic opportunity
The biggest result
wasn't on the scoreboard.
The most significant outcome of the tour did not happen on the scoreboard at all.
After two weeks working alongside Eture FC, a Spanish club currently in the fourth division and building a multi-million-dollar new football facility, McNeill was offered the role of Director and Head Coach of Eture FC's new Women's Professional Team, launching in August 2027.
The mandate: build the program from the ground up, coaching philosophy, recruitment, staff, culture, and long-term sporting strategy, with the ambition of taking Eture FC from Spain's fourth division to Liga F, the country's topflight of women's professional football.
“It is an incredible honor and a testament to what our players, staff, and organizations accomplished during our time in Spain,” McNeill said.
06 · Building a transcontinental pathway
A bridge
across the Atlantic.
The Eture FC opportunity does more than add a job title. Structured to run from August through May in Spain, with McNeill returning each summer to lead ATL Nightshade FC, Global Football Connect's planned WPSL program, from May through July, it creates what may be the first true transcontinental pathway for women's football to exist in American soccer.
The full ecosystem now taking shape: a youth academy feeding into elite training through Senshi Football Academy, a pre-professional platform through ATL Nightshade FC, international showcase tours through Global Football Connect, and, for the players who earn it, a direct professional destination in Spain through Eture FC, with further European partnerships to come.

“Rather than simply sending players overseas for short trials, we are building a complete development ecosystem. This is not simply another academy. It is an entirely new model for women's football development.”Mickey McNeill
