Energy FC Downs Tulsa Roughnecks FC 3-0 in Black Gold Derby

Michael Thomas, Sebastian Dalgaard and Colin Bonner each scored goals for OKC as Energy FC shut out Tulsa Roughnecks FC 3-0 and extended its current unbeaten streak to seven games Saturday night at Taft Stadium.

In first half stoppage time, a yellow card foul in the Tulsa box by Roughnecks FC’s Sammy Ochoa on OKC’s Wojciech Wojcik set up a penalty kick for Energy FC. OKC captain, Thomas, rolled the ensuing kick into the lower-left corner of the Tulsa net, opposite of the side Roughnecks keeper Jake Feener played, to give Energy FC a 1-0 lead and what would be the game’s deciding goal. Thomas’s penalty kick score was the first successful conversion for OKC in 2016, with the club missing all three of its previous chances.

Energy FC extended its lead in the 52nd minute, when a loose ball caromed to the top of the Tulsa box and Dalgaard rifled a shot into the upper-left corner of the Roughnecks box, past a flat-footed Feener.

With the match seemingly in hand in the 89th minute, Bonner, an FC Dallas loanee, upped OKC’s lead to 3-0 when Michael Harris sent a cross into the Tulsa box and Bonner placed a leaping header past Feener.

Ochoa received a second yellow card and subsequent red card in the 76th minute to put Tulsa down a man for the final 14 minutes of play. In the second half, Tulsa was cautioned five times and assistant coach Tom Taylor was ejected from the match.

OKC outshot Tulsa 10-1 on the match, with Tulsa failing to put a shot on goal. Energy FC keeper Cody Laurendi notched his seventh clean sheet of the season and fourth in the last five games. The shutout also lowered Laurendi’s 2016 goals-against average to a USL Western Conference-best 0.73. Laurendi currently ranks second in the Western Conference in save percentage of .784.

Energy FC is now 2-0-0 against Tulsa in 2016, having outscored the Roughnecks 5-0 over the two matches. The teams meet again, in Tulsa, on Aug. 20.

The next match for Energy FC is Saturday, July 30, when the club travels to St. Louis, Mo. for a 7:30 p.m. CST start against Saint Louis FC at Worldwide Technology Soccer Park.

OKC’s next home game is Tuesday, Aug. 2, when the club welcomes former Energy FC standout goalkeeper Evan Newton and the Sacramento Republic FC for a 7:30 p.m. CST match at Taft Stadium.
